Vintage Dairy at the Claybelt Museum

The newest exhibit at the Claybelt Museum focuses on the history of dairy in the Temiskaming District. Did you know:

  • there were 7 creameries in the district at one point in time

  • butter production in 1965 was 1,158,131 pounds

  • Eplett's Ice Cream sold ice cream cones for 5 cents each in 1915

  • Thornloe Cheese has been producing cheese since 1940

  • during WWII, Thornloe had to roll cheese wheels down an inked bar to stamp the cheese for export to Britain.
